“Very entertaining!”
Martin Radford, Total Networking, Grantham
Thank you so much for last night - we really enjoyed your talk. I've never heard some of the women laugh so much and it raised a smile on even the most formidable of the group (and that takes some doing, believe me). I particularly liked the touches of humanity that ran through your talk (you as a boy etc). Don't you think that the best comics all have it ? Peter Kay, Michael McIntyre...
Tonia Evers, Everton WI

Piers Morgan ‘Tosser’ Shock
News reaches me of a forthcoming (probably October 2010) ITV encounter between Piers Morgan and Alan Sugar entitled When Piers Met Lord Sugar, a case of the irascible meeting the irredeemable. I’ll leave you to figure out which is which.
When I’m doing my after-dinner talks I tell lots of stories about some of the famous folk I’ve interviewed and whose company and talents have delighted me, as well as a few who failed to live up to their agreeable on-screen image.
But I must admit I’ve never attempted to interview Piers because, although lots of the interviewees I talk about are or were famous, it’s not their fame that attracts me. It’s their talent. And the irony here is that the man who became famous as a judge in Britain’s Got Talent doesn’t have a great deal of it himself, in my view.
I’ve never really forgiven Piers, I guess, for reducing the Daily Mirror from a tabloid with heart and passion and intelligence to a less successful and less witty version of The Sun, during his long, disaster-strewn years as editor.
In the encounter with Lord Sugar, the former Amstrad boss turned TV personality (thanks to his unmissable handling of The Apprentice) shows Piers around his palatial Florida home and at one point, says the ITV blurb, “playfully tells him to shut up and calls him a tosser.”
Now I know that Sralan, as he used to be called, is a grumpy old bear, but I’m already starting to warm to him.
